Welcome to Ballet 5:8 School of the Arts!
We are delighted to invite you to dance with us.
Ballet 5:8 School of the Arts is the dance education arm of Ballet 5:8, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and professional performance company. It is our goal to make high-quality dance training accessible to students of all ages and levels of ability in a uniquely nurturing environment where students thrive. Whether students take classes for a few years or many, study for fun, or train to pursue professional careers, we are committed to being a positive influence in students' lives that can help prepare them for whatever lies ahead.
Our name, Ballet 5:8, is a reference to a verse from Scripture that is the starting point and motivation for everything that we do:
"But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." - Romans 5:8
Our faith - and the joy and gratitude for the incredible gift of salvation - is the driving factor behind our passion for the arts, for dance, and for the unique atmosphere we maintain at Ballet 5:8 School the Arts.

Everyone! Anyone interested in dance is welcome to join us, regardless of your views, beliefs, race, or gender. You do not need to share our faith in order to dance at Ballet 5:8. We are committed to making high quality dance instruction widely accessible to our communities as possible.

Ballet 5:8 School of the Arts is a dance education center and the official school of Ballet 5:8. We are committed to ensuring that each of our classes and programs consists of the highest quality instruction, providing the most possible benefit to all students who participate. This is made possible thanks to qualified instructors who have extensive training, professional performing experience, and teacher training and experience, small class sizes, and the use of teaching syllabus and curriculum developed specifically to meet the needs of students in each program.
The Ballet 5:8 school of the Arts syllabus and curriculum is developed and maintained by Ballet 5:8 Artistic Director Julianna Rubio Slager and program staff, and incorporates elements from time-tested Vaganova teaching principals. Our class content is developmentally appropriate for each age group and is also safe for children of all ages thanks to our attention to latest research in childhood education and development, and in sports medicine and nutrition.
A Nurturing Environment
We are committed to challenging, teaching and equipping students in dance in a manner that builds students up and teaches them the many cognitive and other skills they need in order to succeed in dance - and in life! Instructors challenge students to reach their fullest potential by providing instruction, correction and constructive criticism in love. This inspires passion and promotes the development of a healthy, self-motivated work ethic.
We are committed to maintaining a positive atmosphere throughout the school. Each of our instructors and staff members uphold our standards for honesty, integrity, respectfulness, diligence, patience, kindness, and joy. We challenge each dancer to come to class with a positive work ethic, to address their instructors with respect, and to encourage, compliment and esteem their peers. We use carefully selected music in classes, steering clear of things like inappropriate language and suggestive lyrics in order to maintain an edifying environment for all students, families and staff.
Conversation of Life and Faith
The larger mission of Ballet 5:8 is to engage communities in conversation of life and faith through innovative storytelling and breathtaking dance. We invite everyone involved in Ballet 5:8 School of the Arts to join us in this conversation on an ongoing basis. You don't have to adhere to a particular faith in order to join the conversation - we invite everyone to join us in open, grace-filled conversation about topics relevant to our time, often based on the stories told in our performances. Instructors may also invite students to join them in prayer at the beginning of classes - this is a small but important way for us to support students of all ages not only as dancers, but as whole people.
